International Society for Contemporary Music

In 2018 the Non-Profit Cultural Association Miso Music Portugal – MMP, has celebrated its 33rd anniversary. It has been the full member of the ISCM – International Society for Contemporary Music, since 2000.

In pursuing its mission of substantially contributing to the international visibility and projection of Portuguese music, the Miso Music Portugal and the Portuguese Music Research & Information Centre – MIC.PT, have continued its main activities, having developed various new projects, including:

1. The organisation of national and international events (concerts, performances...) at the O'culto da Ajuda in Lisbon, including: the Art's Birthday 2018 in January; performances of Portuguese and international improvisers (throughout the year; for example with Ernesto Rodrigues & Carlos Zíngaro); the Música Viva Festival 2018 – "The Unsustainable of Being!" (May 19-26); the "Extraordinary Voice" Cycle in the framework of the Lisbon Festivities 2018 (June 22, 23, 29 & 30); concerts dedicated to children such as the "Contos Contados Com Som" (Sound-Told Fairy Tales); performances where music is combined with other artistic areas; the Antena 2 Recitals with talented musicians performing contemporary music (co-organised with the Portuguese National Broadcaster – RTP); concerts of the Loudspeaker Orchestra (for example "SUNTRIA – imaginal sonotopes" by João Castro Pinto), among many others;

2. The release of the monthly MIC.PT Newsletter (in Portuguese and English; www.mic.pt/noticias?where=8&what=1&lang=en), constituting a regular insight in the universe of Portuguese music – activities of composers, performers; announcements of important events dedicated to new music; novelties in the Portuguese new music discography; practical information for composers and musicians concerning courses and workshops, ...;

4. The substantial development of the MIC.PT Agenda (www.mic.pt/noticias?where=8&what=4&lang=pt), where it is possible to find the most relevant information – including dates, location, programme and performers – on the various events (concerts, performances, ...) dedicated to the music by Portuguese Composers from the 20th and 21st centuries;

5. Continuation of the new series of printed publications (in Portuguese and English) – "Portuguese, 20th and 21st Century Music Notebooks" – dedicated to the work of various Portuguese contemporary composers;

6. Continuation of the In Focus section on the MIC.PT – every two months featuring one Portuguese contemporary composer;

7. Regular production for the Portuguese National Broadcaster – Antena 2 of the "Música Hoje" (Music Today; www.facebook.com/mmp.musica.hoje/) radio programme, dedicated to Portuguese new music. All the podcasts are available on the RTP Play: www.rtp.pt/play/p1390/musica-hoje. In September 2018 the "Música Hoje" released the new cycle – Na 1.ª Pessoa (In the 1st Person). It's composed of conversations with Portuguese composers, and the ones residing in Portugal, being a platform for their communication with the audience. The interviews are conducted by Pedro Boléo from the Portuguese "Público" Journal;
