2018 Management Report
1. 2018 Summer Assembly
On January 23, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the Instituto Chile (Almirante Montt 454, Santiago), the Summer Assembly took place. The aim of the meeting was to draw conclusions about the work by the National Association of Chilean Composers (ANC in Spanish) in 2017 and to plan next year’s work. The table of contents of this meeting included a report on 2017 ANC activities, the improvements made to the ANC website, the season “ANC in the Fall” (ANC en Otoño), and the activities carried out in the SCD concert hall that would grow to be “ANC in Spring” (ANC en Primavera). The ANC candidate for the Chilean National Art Prize, Alejandro Guarello, was also elected in this meeting.
2. Concert season “ANC in the Fall”
The third version of this concert season was carried out May 10th and 31st at 7 p.m. in the hall “Sala América” of the National Library. The first session included works from Tamara Miller, Fernando Carrasco, Edgardo Cantón and Eduardo Acevedo. The Illawara Flute Orchestra participated, directed by Wilson Padilla. The second session included works from Ignacio Escobar, Ximena Matamoros, Mario Mora, René Romo, Olivier Messiaen, Felipe Gómez and Claude Debussy. Performers Andrés Maupoint, Eugenio González, Elías Allendes and David Godoy participated of this session.
3. 2018 Winter Assembly
On September 3rd, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the Instituto Chile (Almirante Montt 454, Santiago), the Winter Assembly took place. The table of contents of this meeting was (1) Report of the “ANC in the Fall” season, (2) Report of the participation of Pablo Aranda as ANC representative in the Board of Promotion of Chilean Music (Consejo de Fomento a la Música Chilena, CNCA), (3) National Prize 2018 and (4) ANC’s website.
4. Support to the Carlos Riesco Award
The National Association of Composers supported the Carlos Riesco Award helping its diffusion and presenting three of its members as part of the jury: Antonio Carvallo (ANC’s President), Andrés Maupoint and Pablo Aranda, the latter participants also members of the Association’s Board.
5. 2018 National Prize
Following previous elections, the ANC candidate was selected by ANC members who voted through email. The proposed candidates were Alejandro Guarello and Guillermo Riffo. Alejandro Guarello got the majority vote, and thus became the ANC’s candidate for the 2018 National Prize. The 2018 National Prize was awarded to Juan Allende-Blin.
6. Composition selection for ISCM 2019
Every year the ANC is in charge of selecting 6 composers’ works to be sent to the International Society for Contemporary Music. One of the compositions is selected to be played at their festival every year. On September 11th, the Board members Antonio Carvallo, Alejandro Guarello and Aliocha Solovera choose six compositions to be sent to ISCM. The Society selected the work presented by Francisco Alvarado to be presented at the World Music Days in Estonia in 2019.
7. New ANC Members
In August 2018, a new call for ANC members was carried out. Rodrigo Cádiz, Tamara Miller, Maximiliano Soto and Julio Torres were selected as new ANC members by a jury comprised by ANC members David Cortés, Pablo Aranda and Nicolás Kliwadenko.
8. News Bulletin
Under the direction of Nicolás Cortés, a bi-monthly ANC News Bulletin was started. This bulletin is published in a digital format sent to ANC members and available through our website, announcing relevant information about members and diverse activities. http://www.anc-chile.cl/articulos.html
