Riederer, Fernando 




Fernando Riederer was born at 9th July 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to Florianopolis, South of Brazil, when was a young child. Between 1997 and 2002 he attended the Escola de Música e Belas artes do Paraná – EMBaP (School of Music and Arts of Parana - Brazil) studing composition with the PhD Professor Maurício Dottori. Since 2003 Fernando lives in Vienna, Austria and studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (University of Music and Dramatic Arts of Vienna) with the Professor Dieter Kaufmann and Professor German Toro-Perez.

Participation in Contest / Prizes

  • 2002 Composition Contest Lindembergue Cardoso promoted by Escola de Música da UFBA (School of Music of the Federal University of Bahia – Brazil) - finalist with the work “Um Sopro” (A Waft) to chamber orchestra;
  • 2003 Composition Contest Camargo Guarnieri promoted by Orquestra Sinfônica da USP (Symphonic Orchestra of University of Sao Paulo – Brazil) - Honourable Mention with the work “Ruinas em Fúria” (Ruins in Fury) to symphonic orchestra;
  • 2005 XVI Bienal de Música Brasileira Contemporânea (XVI Biennale of Contemporary Brazilian Music) at Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. Received the FUNARTE prize with the cycle of com o cycle de songs "da carne do teu coração“ to soprano and piano.
  • 2008 Scholarship of Theodor Körner Fonds (Foundation Theodor Körner) to compose the work “Below” to Flute, Bass, Clarone and electronic devices. 
  • 2009 received the Start-stipend from the Austrian Minister of Culture (BMUKK).
  • 2011 and 2012 “Works-stipend” from the Austrian Minister of Culture (BMUKK).

Fernando has been partipating of Festivals and musical projects since 1995:

  • 1998 and 2001 „Encompor“ – Encontro de Compositores (Composers Encounter) – Porto Alegre – Brazil;
  • 2002 IV Encontro Latino-Americano de Compositores e Intérpretes (Latin-American Encounter of Composers and Interpreters) - Belo Horizonte - Brazil;
  • 2002 founded e directed the Ensemble “EntreCompositores“, a creation and performance group to contemporaneous music;
  • 2005 and 2007 Bienal de música brasileira contemporânea no Rio de Janeiro (Biennale of Contemporary Brazilian Music of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil);
  • 2006 and 2008 Bienal de música contemporânea no Mato Grosso (Biennale of Contemporary Brazilian Music of Mato Grosso – Brazil);
  • 2007 Making New Waves / Audible light installation at Budapest, Hungary;
  • 2008 and 2010 (Order) Festival Wien Modern.

At 2006 Fernando, Hannes Dufek and Christoph W. Breidler fund "Platypus - Verein für neue Musik" (Platypus – New Music Association), ( The group organise projects such as “KomponistInen-Marathon, Festival für junge zeitgenössische Musik” (Marathon of Composers – Festival of young contemporary music; international exchange projects (Mexico, Brazil, Czech Rep., Germany, England and Ireland) and the Ensemble Platypus. Fernando’s pieces have been presented at diverse European countries and Americas.
