Li, Shaosheng 




A young Chinese composer based in the United States, Li Shaosheng is the project director of the Beijing Modern Music Festival (BMMF), cofounder and joint artistic director of the American Asian New Music Ensemble (ANME), he was recommended for admission to CCOM’s composition department, where he studied under the guidance of Mr. Xiaogang Ye. He was the first CCOM student to be admitted to the composition department at the Juilliard School, where he studied with Dr. Robert Beaser.
Li’s works have been frequently commissioned and performed across Asia, Europe, the United States, and in other cities around the world. His musical activities include appearances at the Canegie hall China Music Festival, Australia China Music Festival, Thailand International Contemporary Music Festival. He also took short-term composition classes at the Schoenberg Center in Vienna in 2009. He also launched the young Chinese composer team, which aims to promote new music in China.Li went to the Juilliard School to further his education in 2012, entering a new stage in his artistic creation and organizational activities. His chamber work "Linghu" has been frequently performed in the Asia- Pacific region.
Li’s work was described by The New York Times as“vibrant and colorful”, “a manifestation of classical Chinese features” and “a deftly scored work that veered from lustrous Impressionist washes to folksy Ivesian polytonal clashes,” and many of his other works have also been highly praised by world-class media outlets.
